Coming together for wine and for bread,
tasting the story and hearing it read,
knowing our hunger and sharing the meal
opens our eyes to see Jesus is real.
Who will be hungry if, hearing the call,
we offer seats at our banquet to all?
Who is forgotten? Who will we ignore?
Who is the outcast that knocks at our door?
Here at this table, we’re welcomed by name;
all are invited, each seat is the same.
Serving, receiving, and eating the feast
humbles the haughty and honors the least.
Blessing this table the Spirit is here
granting us vision, so suddenly clear:
sharing and serving, the body is fed,
nourished by Jesus, the Wine and the Bread.
