We are the ones the world awaits
to live the words we pray.
God, grant us courage that we dare
to practice peace each day.
We must confess that Jesus’ words
“They know not what they do”
expose our shared complicity
as we our sins review.

The scourge of scarring violence
maims people and your earth.
The wars we wage, at home, abroad,
all lessen human worth.
Call us to rise from lethargy
and work to help secure
for every child a ray of hope
that their life will endure.

May we not falter, filled with fear,
but heed the prophet’s word
to make from swords strong blades for plows,
and never be deterred.
We celebrate your trust in us;
for through us you release
your pow’r to bring our suff’ring world
the promise of your peace!
